A book I've wanted to read for a while.
And my new years resolution for 2024 was to get back into doing all the things that 'I' love and that that make me ME. I used to read book after book before kids and had a huge library that I colour ordered in rainbow (obvs) filled with many topics. And part of my Self Love promise to myself : is to read more books! And I start with this this book The Alchemist
When you have kids there simply isn't the time to read or if there is, you are definitely doing way better than me. The times when I might ordinarily read (at bed time) I'm absolutely knackered. On the beach holiday (I'm constantly doing / running around after someone/something) there is no sunbathing time, and when there is all I want to do is literally NOTHING. And a day spent in a coffee shop reading on a Saturday (that would normally be 'my thing'), is something of the past. There are no coffee shop quiet reading days or days to myself for doing nothing other than pleasing myself - reading. For me, my favourite day was spent looking in a book shop for hours, buying a few books and then sitting in a coffee shop reading. This was a bit of me. But my kids are getting older now and fitting reading time in is definitely easier than it was BUT I've lost the flow of reading.
And this isn't a moan btw. Having children is absolutely a gift from God. Having children softened me in ways I couldn't imagine and kept my heart open. And both of my two have been the best thing to happen to me in different ways. Period. But with this said, I have to make a constant effort to remember who 'I' am. Where is this girl that had hobbies and interests and did things purely because she wanted to. Not the person I am today that has 2 little lives and 1 big male life to consider whenever I want to do something.
Reading in my spare time fizzled out because I stopped having 'free time' or 'me time' then when that stopped through being super busy (house reno's / running a business / being a mum) I slowly stopped prioritising it and prioritising me. Can you relate?
So this is me coming back to remembering who I am. Prioritising reading because I love it. And I love me. I deserve time to read. I made a promise to myself just to read more. Not as another job on the to do list. But more as an act of self care / self love. Taking time out everyday to just sit with myself and read. Whatever the heck I fancy. And in true Fletch style this naturally involves the Universe, Travel, Spirituality, Wisdom, Life Enhancing, Personal Development + Progression and matters of the heart. And what better book to start with than a book that prompts the reader to figure out their dreams, to take those dreams seriously and to listen to signs and omens along the way - and the importance of following them! And that's exactly where I'm at in my life in packing up my UK life to follow my dreams in Bali.
The Alchemist book by Paulo Coelho is all of the above. It's a fictionally written story about Santiago, a shepherd boy who dreams of travelling the world in search of treasure. It's full of beautiful little quotes and poetically written - but with an inspiring message throughout. Santiago's journey so far has been filled with omens and signs which I hope ultimately lead him to find his treasure. Whatever that might be.
" When you have a dream and want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it. "

I'm not going to tell you completely what happens - but this for me was the perfect book to start my reading journey. Just the right amount of fiction and poetic crossover into real life to keep me interested. Want to be book club buddies? I'd love to have you with me. Tell me what you thought of this book?
