Week 7 Growing My YouTube Channel to become Monetized
Week 7 of my goal of getting a small YouTube Channel monetized as an over 40 year old Mom (28th October - 3rd November 2024) - My YouTube Channel Growth Review Video's and Account Stats.
How long will it take? This week - we left Bali to go on a month long holiday to Vietnam - and I've not managed to get a whole lot done on the channel BUT this week the channel hit a massive milestone of gaining 333 subscribers!!! And it was all about taking stock and celebrating the little wins. This is a third of the way guys and I took a moment to reflect and say thank you to mu subscribers.
Last week was filled with SELF DOUBT. IMPOSTER SYNDROME. AND OVERTHINKING There's a video about it here but like all things that come to test us, see this weeks video on how I tackled this problem. I think it's a problem that creeps in for many small creators and something that if you're on your own growth journey, you may feel from time to time.
So with all this said let's jump into the growth the for week 7.
WOW! We did it! 🎉 In just 49 days, this channel has grown to 333 subscribers, and I’m honestly amazed by the support from all of you! In this blog post, I’m sharing the strategies and tips that helped me reach this milestone in such a short amount of time. Whether you’re just starting out or looking for ways to level up your channel, these insights could help YOU see growth too! 🚀
What You’ll Learn in This post:
• The key strategies I used to grow my channel fast!
• How I stay consistent with posting and engaging with my community.
• The importance of creating eye-catching thumbnails and catchy titles.
• Why networking and collaborating with other creators is a game-changer.
• How I stay motivated and keep pushing even when things get tough.
Week 7 was a week of slow growth. But I hit this massive milestone of 333 subscribers!!! And on looking at it it days rather than weeks - this was 333 subs in just 49 days - which is amazing growth for a small channel. As mentioned in last weeks overview, I'm expecting things to slow down in these next 2 weeks. but then wooosh, after week 8 or 9 we're going to be allowed to GROW significantly. I put the bold statement out that I THINK that this channel will get monetized around week 10. So keep watching to see if this is so.
It's been another week since my last growth review Week 6 (21st October - 27th October) Let's see how my new and small channel grew this week, week 7 and the things that I implemented to grow. I ended week 7 with 333 subscribers which was an increase of +25 subscribers.

Welcome to my Week 7 growth review on growing a brand new small YouTube channel from ZERO to MONETIZED Status. I earn all of our family income online, in various ways. Which allows us to be free and travel the world with our kids. The next form of online passive income that I am aiming to start earning from is YouTube. Starting a YouTube channel is one of the many ways to make money online (and serious amounts of money too!). And even though I'm completely new to it, I'm documenting my journey here to show others how I did it to demonstrate how YouTube is for everyone. I share everything that helped me, channels that I liked, strategies that I implemented.
Just 49 days in i'm one third of the way to being monetized. I'm amazed at the speed of the growth and so glad that I started. My advice to anyone putting starting their pwn channel off is to just start. Just think of yourself in 49 days time.... you'll be glad you did! Once I get monetized I'll share exactly how much I made too!
So how do you get monetized on YouTube.....?
How to become Monetized for a Small New YouTuber?
If you found my blog or channel, you're probably interested in making money online and becoming financially freeeee. So you will most probably know how To get monetized on YouTube, but for those that don't know - this means joining the YouTube Partner Program, which requires my channel to have 1000 subscribers and 4000 Watch Time Hours before becoming eligible to apply. I'm on that journey now of starting + growing my new YouTube channel to get that monetized to show others whats working for me & what's not. Just 7 weeks in - And I document that whole YouTube channel growth here on the Blog and over on YouTube see the full growth playlist here from Week 1 to Week 7 currently with ONE GOAL - To Get Monetized! So that other Mum's, Dad's, Families can do exactly the same, no matter how shy you may feel! For extra money, luxury pocket money for nice things / holidays etc, or to take over your 9-5 income (freeing you up to live the life that you dream - we're currently living our dream in Bali, we are free to travel and worldschool our kids, as we earn online and YouTube will give us another passive income stream, which is never a bad thing. You're dream may look very different to mine. But whatever that dream is - it's the importance of having a dream that makes life interesting! And I firmly believe that YouTube can MAKE DREAMS. And I'm going to show you how!
This journey for me, is all about personal development + personal growth as well as channel growth... and finally income growth. I'm an introvert by nature. Quite shy. And for many years I felt like I was not good enough. Doing a YouTube channel is way out of my comfort zone. I'm naturally NOT showy, flashy or fancy. But I do know things that I think can help people and that's my goal with the channel to SHARE knowledge + inspire. If I can do this YOU can do this.

During my 7th week on YouTube:
I posted 7 shorts (hit my target 7 daily)
I posted 2 niche topic videos
I posted my 1 weekly YouTube growth review video
I share everything I learn on the YouTube Playlist How to Grow Your YouTube Channel section of my blog here so you never miss a thing
THE JOURNEY SO FAR
First off, let’s talk about the journey. When I started this channel, I set a goal to reach 100 subscribers in the first month. But as you can see, we smashed that goal and kept going! It’s been a whirlwind, and I want to share the strategies that made this possible.
CONTENT STRATEGY
Alright, tip number one: Quality Content is Key. I focused on creating videos that provide real value to my audience. Whether it’s tutorials, reviews, or vlogs, I always ask myself: 'What can I share that will help or entertain my viewers?'
I also pay attention to what my viewers are responding to. Engagement is a big indicator of what content resonates with your audience.
THUMBNAILS AND TITLES
Next up, Thumbnails and Titles Matter. I spent time designing eye-catching thumbnails and crafting titles that draw people in. It’s the first impression—make it count!
After updating my thumbnails, I noticed a significant increase in click-through rates. So don’t underestimate their power! You can update Thumbnails in YouTube studio AFTER you have already uploaded a video with a thumbnail. So give thumbnails some thought and back over them to see if there is any way you could simplify them / make them better.
CONSISTENCY
Tip number three: Be Consistent. I committed to a posting schedule. Whether it’s once a week or twice, sticking to a schedule helps your audience know when to expect new content.
Consistency builds trust, and it keeps your audience engaged. Plus, it gives you more opportunities to attract new subscribers!
ENGAGEMENT
Tip number four: Engage with Your Community. I make it a point to respond to comments and connect with my viewers on social media.
Building a community is crucial. When people feel seen and heard, they’re more likely to stick around and share your content!
PROMOTION AND COLLABORATION
And finally, tip number five: Promote and Collaborate. Promote your new video on your social media platforms even if you don't have many followers. I use Instagram and Twitter and after each video I do I add a quick post showing an image of the video and hashtag it accordingly. This will get more eyes on your video. More eyes = more views. More views potentially will get you a couple of subscribers that you wouldn't have got.
Use Pinterest to promote your video too! If you haven't got Pinterest set up, it's a must!
Pinterest is the 2nd biggest search engine. Don't look at it as a pretty place to store your fave pics from the web. Look at it like an amazing image library where you want your video / images coming up in peoples feeds that are interested in your kind of stuff. Every video you upload you can pin to Pinterest by clicking on the 3 dots near the video and sharing to Pinterest. I get around 300 views from Pinterest on my videos per month, and some of those will convert to actual subs. This is why I include a Pinterest tick box on my Video Checklist because Pinning is Essential for every video that you do. BTW that's a free checklist if you want it. Also you can go through all your old videos and add them to Pinterest Today by sharing.
I will soon reach out to other creators in my niche for collaborations too in time once I'm a little more established. This not only helps you tap into their audience but also adds variety to your content. Don’t be afraid to network! Every collaboration can introduce your channel to new potential subscribers.
So there you have it! Those are the key strategies I used to reach 333 subscribers in just 49 days. If you found these tips helpful, make sure to watch the video for more and give the video a thumbs up, and don’t forget to subscribe for more content! What strategies have you found helpful in growing your channel? Let me know in the comments below. Until next time, keep creating and stay inspired! Bye!
A note from Fletch: Another week of growth. Steady and slow.
I'll be making sure every video in week 8 continues to have all the things learnt in weeks 1 - 7 to continue growing my channel because all of this is working:
A pre-designed Thumbnail (designed in Canva) that is straight to the point, designed for mobile and creates curiosity.
A well planned out Title (using Chat GPT and tweaking to my style) that does not repeat what the thumbnail says but adds more content to the thumbnail.
A well written description with at least 3 priority hashtags but 15 can be used.
I will Add the video to a playlist where possible to increase view time for relevant content.
I will add subtitles to every video as this helps accessibility and people who like to watch silently.
Film a 15 second snappy intro separately if my original video isn't succinct enough
Follow my Production and Distribution Checklist to properly share.
Start planning content for the week / month ahead
Week 8 I'll be covering: adding affiliate links to my videos
If you have been inspired to start your own YouTube channel as an over 40 mum or dad, do let me know in the comments. I love to hear it. Or maybe you've had your channel for a while and are starting it back up armed with the new knowledge to do it. Again drop me a comment. I am on your team! (especially on the videos ha ha as the YouTube Algo LOVES that!). Hopefully you've got some learning pointers from this page and my video that you can take and apply to your growth.
More of the same commitment and focus from me next week, then in the blink of an eye it will be time for the weekly Growth Review for Week 7. We leave Bali for a long month in Vietnam followed by Xmas in the UK, before heading back 'home' to Bali for New Year. What a jam packed few months we've got - I hope to share much of it over on my YouTube Channel, so if you're not already, please do subscribe. And imagine... just imagine a Xmas present of YouTube Monetization.... now wouldn't that be just lovely. Well a girls got to have a dream right! And if you can think it, you can manifest it! Thanks for reading!
The Reason I'm starting a YouTube Channel over 40

Equipment I'm using to Start my New Small Channel - I'm not very techy but this stuff does me perfectly:
I don't have the latest video equipment to start this journey. These are affiliate links btw, so if you click them I get a small commission. I am using:
A paid for CapCut Pro editing software (the free version is enough, but I wanted to unlock some things to try out)
iPhone 13 to film on : https://amzn.to/4f4kGRk (I use to film everything on. Just what I had, I didn't go out and buy new)
DJI Om 5 Smartphone Gimbal : https://amzn.to/3YDgFhD (again an old one that I had. A mid priced Gimble that gives me smooth recordings, I can use as a tripod and whilst out and about walking)
MacBook Air to edit on and upload : https://amzn.to/4dSvwsT (newly bought, but I use it for work)
So you can see, this is all fairly basic tech that most people will have access to. I have a big list of things that I would LOVE to buy but the goal is to show that most people can start and grow the channel to monetization stage without investing huge amounts of money and really just using what they've got. My classic phrase: 'Start where you are, Use what you've got, until the thing is done!' if you don't you'll never be ready (my experience)
