Documenting Our Social Media Passive Income Journey from Zero to Monetized

We've started an Instagram account primarily to document our travel life to keep friends and family updated on our exciting journey. Follow us on Instagram here. But also we want to document our journey on monetizing instagram from the point of view from someone that's never monetised social media before. We aren online digitally BUT have NEVER earned from social media despite it being such a huge opportunity to earn online.

We earn all of our family income online and this allows us to work remotely from anywhere in the world. This is what sparked our idea to uproot and travel full time, rather than be stuck in the UK with terrible weather, which lead to our big life decision and move to Bali with our 2 children to live a more fulfilled and happier life. But now that we are on this beautiful dream travel life journey, we've had a taste for how awesome life can be and we seriously don't want it to ever stop. The way to ensure financial freedom is to have multiple income streams to ensure your financial independence and freedom / safety. Which is why we're documenting all the ways to earn online (including now monetising our social media channels starting with Youtube.

We want to share our own personal journey in creating multiple passive income streams that we have from our own businesses, hobbies, interests, skills and now our personal social media accounts as complete newbies, that we can share our own journey to inspire others to start earning from their own social media accounts.

We've started a Youtube Account to document our travel blog journey and plan to commit to making 2 videos per week, documenting our travel plans and personal journey as we find our feet in our new island lives, world schooling and settling in. Subscribe to our Youtube channel here. I'll write a detailed blog post about my Youtube Account Goals to get monetized from starting at zero subscribers. At the time of writing this I currently have only 8 subscribers, 30 views, less than 1 hour watch time (so you can see just how small and new the channel is).

We'll show you want's working / what's not and how each account is growing (or not) so you can see how easy or difficult it is to grow your own social media and start earning from it. We could all do with the extra cash right?! And if this method works for us, you can apply and replicate the formula to monitize Youtube for yourself. And if it doesn't work for us, then well, at least you learnt how not to do it ;-) then apply those changes.

Primarily, our social media accounts are a place to share this life journey that we're on as a hobby as we love taking photos and videos and enjoy the creative side of social media. It's something we love doing so even if the follow count doesn't increase, it's something we'll keep on doing because we love to do it. And not just to see likes / follows increase.

The goal for both accounts is to monetise each account to create an additional passive income. Something we're both interested in as Digital Nomads to support our own passive income growth and to help others grow their own small accounts too. We earn online and that's what makes this dream travel life work for a family of 4. And now that we've had a taste of this dream life we don't ever want it to stop. And so we're looking at additional ways that we can earn online. Monetizing our Youtube account is the first up because Youtube is something that I have no experience with and I want to truly learn from the ground up and show others how they too can can start earning from making youtube video content around their niche (their audience around their own passions, skills or interests).

For transparency: I'm definitely not a guru in this area. In fact I'm a total newb. I've never earned a penny from YouTubing. I earn from my online products based business. My online digital based business. Blogging. Rewards from staking crypto. We've actually never monitized our social media accounts, never put any real effort into growing them, rather used them as a family photo album - and so will now focus on how to monetise each and share everything with you. I have limited tech experience, with limited technology (I'll be shooting content on my IPhone13 with a mid-range Gimble). I'm also personally quite shy, an introvert - I'm 41 and feel a little bit past it in terms of putting myself out there on social media. I feel as though Youtube isn't really for people like me - but I know this is nonsense and so all the advice I throw out to other people, I'll be bestowing on myself. I'll be putting all this negative self sabotaging talk to one side to just DO IT. And show how I grew my accounts and monitized them. At this point I have no expectations or time scales of how long it will take. I will commit to 3 months of dedicated, consistent posting, by which time I'll review my account position. Each week I'll post an update on how the account is doing so you can see exactly what's what. My dream goal is to start earning from the account to have another passive income.

We plan to grow both these accounts and will document our personal journey of growing a small new Youtube account first and then the Instagram account to keep ourselves accountable and also to show others how to grow their own social media accounts from zero and with limited equipment and skills.
