Extending your Bali VoA over 30 Days
For 1 - 30 days stay in Bali all Foreign Nationals require a Tourist Visa (Visa on Arrival or VoA).
If you plan to stay longer than 30 days in Bali you will need to extend the VoA. This extension allows a further 30 days. That's 60 Bali nights.
We plan to extend our VOA once in Bali to cover us for 60 days and will blog about our experience of extending the visa as a family of 4. If you applied for your first VoA online like us, you can also extend your visa over the 30 days using your online account too! The below information is our guide to extending our visa's over 30 days and we hope it can help you too.
When visiting Bali all Foreign Nationals need a Visa to cover the duration of their stay.
Called a Visa on Arrival (VoA). Whether you're holidaying for 2 days, 2 weeks or 30 days the VoA can be applied for online or you can get it at the airport on landing. Whichever option you choose a VoA for each person in the travelling party is essential to enter the country.
The VoA covers short periods of time and is perfect visa for short stays of up to one month/30 days (extendable for a further 30 days if a longer stay is required). You can apply online up to 14 days before travel and will need a valid passport, passport photo's and IDR500,000 (about £27) See our blog post about the VoA here.
If you plan to stay longer than the 30 days in Bali / Indonesia, you will need to apply for an extension for each person. This VoA extension allows a further 30 days stay in Bali, which can be applied for in the same way that you obtained your first VoA. By using this extension facility you can stay in Indonesia for a maximum of 60 days in total, after that you must leave the country and go home and cry until your next visit to beautiful Bali.
The most convenient way to obtain the first VoA (in our opinion) is online. It's fast, secure and all details are saved in your online Government account. New rules have recently come in that allow the VoA extension to also be made online too through the same online account. This is a fast and easy way to extend the VoA for a further 30 days. This saves you having to visit the airport when in Bali to extend. VoA Extensions cost a further IDR500,000 and will typically take 7-10 working days to process so bear this in mind when applying. You don't want to leave it too late to be without this extended visa.
We plan to extend our VOA once in Bali to cover us for 60 days and will blog about our experience of extending the visa as a family of 4. As we applied for our first VoA online, we'll log into our account during the first week to get the extension sorted.
The visa's that you will need to live and work in Indonesia, are different to the VOA + extension that we talk about here. These Visa's are varied and many. Something we will cover in future blog posts about visa's for living and working in Bali.
We hope that you found this info helpful as a guide to extending your Bali trip for family over 30 days. This was correct at time of writing Jan 2024, so please always check the official gov websites when planning your next trip.
