When we were starting out on our plans to move our family to Bali, finding cheap monthly rentals in Bali for something more long term than a 2 week holiday for our accommodation was a mystery to us. How do you find cheap monthly rentals. Where do people that need to rent a house in Bali go?

We'd spent a trial 1 month in Bali fact finding earlier in 2024 (to see whether the life would work for us). Which of course it did, but we were booking accommodation by the night using the usual places like Booking.com | Air B | and Agoda to pick up reasonably priced rentals. And we were getting some amazing nightly prices (a few days here, a week there). There are still bargains to be had in Bali. We've stayed in over 40 places in Bali so definitely know the good, from the bad, to the downright ugly. To the amazing instagram villas.

But long term this was just not going to be a sustainable way of looking for our family accommodation. For a holiday, sure, this is the perfect way to book accommodation. If you want to explore different regions of Bali. Doing it this way, gives backpacker style freedom, and often it's pretty good for those sticking to a budget as there's quite a lot available last minute. It gives flexibility as you can stay a few days in one place and move on to the next area to explore as we did. Bali is such a diverse country that when taking a holiday there as a family, you might want to explore the different places rather than being stuck in one resort or one place. You'll find that this is the way that many people 'do' Bali. But be aware that this option is also very tiring. The climate is hot and it's not always the best way chugging around with kids looking for the next nights accommodation.

So, if you know that you are going to stay in Bali for a month or longer, then you'll want to know this great hack that we use for finding cheap / cheaper accommodation for our family home in Bali and for your next longer term stay in Bali. Especially good for expats and those wanting to stay in one area for 1 month+. But where is this holy grail of cheap rentals....??? Read on, we got you.

And this is how we book our family rentals when in Bali (until we buy our own land and build our own villa for our family home). We are currently renting this property and it's a really good price for a home for a family of 4 - take a house tour of our Traditional Local Balinese House On YouTube.

We're Renting A Traditional Balinese Local home - Want a tour

Sure it's traditional and lacks some style, lacks a pool, but it feels very Bali, it's in a local lane, and in making those savings it allows us to spend more on living, trips, treats, massages and all the usual expenses that a family has. And remember guys, we are a family of 4. Solo travellers can live REALLY, really well in Bali for under £1k, but we have 4 heads to rest, 4 lots of meals every day x 3 meals - that's 12 meals per day, 4 lots of smoothie bowls, 4 lot's of fun to pay for. Family life mounts up. But when we budget, we can keep our whole monthly family budget to under £1500 (which for a family of 4 is cheap) and we still have treats and massages and eat out every night. I bet you're wondering HOW??? Well, it starts with getting a good price for our monthly rental accommodation first. Take a look to see what we're paying for this local house for 1 month - at my YouTube video of ££$$ How Much We're Paying $$££ For Our Traditional Family Home in Bali (Uluwatu - one of the most expensive places to rent in Bali) - I think you'll be surprised on the price. Heads up, this is my first video for YouTube - they do get better from here I promise ;-)

So as you can see from the video our monthly rental is pretty darn good, for a family of 4 rental in Bali (price correct as of Sept 2024). And you'll notice I mention about an even better priced villa that we're heading to in October, for which I'll do another post / video about soon, so that you can compare and contrast the differences between the two and compare prices wit bills all in V's bills not included...

So where do we find our Cheap monthly rentals Bali? And not just us, everyone who stays in Bali longer than holiday status uses this hack.

The answer is Facebook Groups. Go on Facebook and join all the groups that you can for the area you're interested in. here you'll find multiple daily posts from landlords posting their long term cheap to mid - to expensive monthly villa's. You'll see stuff on these pages that you just won't find on booking sites.

Some of the one's we joined for Ulu are:

Uluwatu Community Housing - Buy rent Villa & Land - Bingin / Pecatu / Bukit

Bali Listings - Buy & Sell: Villa - Property Real Estate

There are loads though - so search rent / rentals bali and join the areas that you're interested in. We joined a few for Ubud when we're staying there but remove ourselves as it can be quite overwhelming the amount that come up. Which is super great when you're looking for property!

You'll obvs want to do your own due diligence on anywhere that you're looking at. But these groups are the only way that we book our monthly rentals now. We have stayed in a £250 a month property to the current traditional house, to a luxury £2k p month villa to our mid range £900 villa. So there is something for everyone. You'll also find on here some swoon worthy places tat we don't stay at, as we can't justify the price on spending £4k a month but you can if you want to.

You can also put your own post in these groups of what you are looking for, which will open yourself up to many responses to landlords showing you their property. Some of which will be plainly not suitable, but from time to time you get lucky finding your perfect place. This is exactly how we found the gem of a property that we stayed in July 2024 and are going back to for October 2024 -January , because we loved it. I'll share this next rental with you soon.

So I hope some of these facebook groups help you in making your move to Bali.

And guys, if you want the contact details of any of our local Bali Contacts/landlords that I post about here (i.e. places where we've stayed and the genuine landlords of each place, let me know in a private message and I'd be glad to share these with you so you can open dialogue with the landlord yourself)

FLETCH - BE NOTHING LIKE

Hey you! My name is Fletch, a Northern girl from the UK, living with the love of my life (aka Mr Be Nothing Like) and our 2 children, Lilly + Bertie Boo. We're about to embark on some big life moves, selling our things to move to the other side of the world, Bali, Indonesia to live a high vibe life of our dreams. You can find me in coffee shops working on my business (which runs passively), while researching on Instagram what to make for dinner. And at home (as I really am a home girl), world schooling my children, doing yoga, meditating, being in nature. I created this blog to share everything I have learnt about creating a freedom life. A life of your dreams, through harnessing energy + vibration to create a life where you feel happy, balanced, successful and free. A life you deserve. A life that you love. There is another way. I'm sharing everything that I know.
